On her wedding day, a bride in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi district performed martial arts to raise self-defence awareness. A video of the performance is currently circulating the internet.


Nisha, 22, was seen in the video practising Silambattam, a weapons-based martial art, while dressed in her wedding dress.

Nisha, who has been practising the art form for three years, told news agency ANI that she wanted to raise awareness about the need of self-defence in women as well as the art form itself.


“Shortly after the wedding, I performed traditional martial arts in front of the villages to make aware ladies the significance of self-defence. This is something I've been learning for the past three years. I'd like to see more people to learn this art.” Nisha said. See video here.
