Virginia State Court Postpones Johnny Depp’s $50M Defamation Trial Against Amber Heard Till Next Year

A Virginia State Court judge pushed the defamation trial back between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are some of the most loved contemporary actors of the Hollywood fraternity. While Johnny is famous worldwide for the character of Jack Sparrow in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean at the same time Amber Heard enjoys a huge fan following around the world for her role in Aquaman. Johnny and Amber were married, however, in 2016, Heard filed for divorce from Depp and accused him of physical abuse. 

Now, a Virginia State Court judge pushed the defamation trial back between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard over claims that she made that the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was physically abusive towards her during their tumultuous, short-lived marriage.

Fairfax County Circuit Court Chief Judge Bruce White announced on Tuesday that the trial, which was set to begin on May 7, will be pushed back to April 11, 2022.

Why The Case Pushed To Next Year?

COVID pandemic is the biggest reason why the trial has been postponed. Like every other country around the world, the Corona pandemic has disturbed the judiciary system of America. with the court system being stretched to its breaking point with delays and lack of access to courtrooms. Virginia has decided to prioritize criminal cases over civil ones and the previous May 7 courtroom assignment has been now re-assigned to a murder trial.
