The Cup will be won by a non-Manchester club for the first time since 2015, after Manchester United was knocked out in the previous round, also by West Ham.

Both Guardiola and West Ham manager David Moyes made significant changes to their starting lineups from the weekend's Premier League games, though neither team lacked fighting spirit.

In the first half, City could have grabbed the lead when defender Nathan Ake headed on goal, but he squandered the opportunity. Later in the game, defender John Stones came near to scoring, but was stopped by West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, who saved to keep the score equal.

City's substitute Phil Foden missed the first penalty, and West Ham's Said Benrahma converted the winning kick.

Guardiola praised West Ham and reminisced on the club's impressive record in the tournament.

"An unbelievable run has come to an end. We got off to a good start. We performed really well, creating opportunities against a deep-defending opponent "he stated

"They performed better on penalty kicks. Congratulations to them . We'll be back next year."

Stuart Pearce, West Ham's assistant manager, claimed his team deserved to win after displaying determination to stay in the game.
"You win some, you lose some, but we deserved to go over the line with the resilience and honesty we showed," Pearce added.

"With 60,000 people in the stadium, it was a fantastic night for this football team. All of the credit goes to the players, with a little bit going to our manager, who is the driving force behind the club on a daily basis.”
