Punjab: Bikram Singh Majithia of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) slammed the Charanjit Singh Channi-led Congress government in Punjab on Tuesday over an alleged security violation during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state last week.

On breach in the PM's security, SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia says, "The CM was never stopped for 20 minutes anywhere. If roads could be cleared for the CM, why not for the PM? Because a plan was made in the chief minister's office to embarrass the PM & BJP.

“It's not about PM Modi alone. It's about the Prime Minister's chair. It's a constitutional post. The most protected person is the Prime Minister of the country,” the SAD leader stated.

Majithia went on to say that those responsible for the incident's planning and scheming should be apprehended.

Modi's convoy was detained on a flyover for 15-20 minutes on his way to Ferozpur in poll-bound Punjab on January 5 to lay the foundation stone of many development projects when a group of farmers blocked the route, which was roughly 30 kilometers from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala.

After the breach, Modi told officials to thank Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh for ensuring that he arrived at Bhatinda airport alive.

On Monday, the Supreme Court ordered the Centre to appoint a panel to investigate the alleged breach, which will be led by a former Supreme Court judge.

There was no threat to the Prime Minister's security, according to Channi, who added that no protestors were visible within a one-kilometer radius of Modi's cavalcade.
Meanwhile, lawyers claim they received an anonymous, pre-recorded call on January 5 from a group claiming responsibility for the incident. The call appeared to be from the banned organization Sikhs For Justice, according to the Hindustan Times (SFJ).
