This day is celebrated to strengthen the international justice system and to provide strength to the victims so that they can stand up for themselves and could fight against the crime. The day also marks the importance of bringing justice, peace and humanity. The day which emphasizes peace, security and well-being of the world is observed on July 17th, 2021.

The theme of the World Day for International Justice 2021 is – “A Call for Social Justice and Digital Economy.” This theme emphasized the injustice between people who have access to technology/ internet and people who do not. This problem came to the limelight during the Covid-19 pandemic when people have to struggle because almost everything, from education to vaccination registration, was dependent on the internet and smartphones.

World Day for International Justice is celebrated on July 17th because this day marks the anniversary of the Rome Statute, which was adopted in the year 1998. The International Criminal Court (ICC) was established because of this treaty and on the same day nearly 139 countries signed the Court’s treaty.

This day is celebrated to raise awareness about the need for justice against those who have committed a crime. The day also highlights that injustice or denied justice is a serious issue and people must speak out about the issue.
