Amid arrest ruckus, ex-Akali minister Bikram Majithia seeks pre-arrest bail in Mohali court

SAD member Bikram Singh Majithia, whose name has been involved in the drug case, has moved to the Mohali Court and filed a petition for pre-arrest bail.

In a major development, Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, named in the drugs case, has moved towards the court, he has filed a petition for anticipatory bail in the Mohali Court. 

In the filed petition, the politician said that this matter is politically motivated and the Congress government is targeting him because of the upcoming Punjab elections.

Majithia's lawyers in the petition said that the police and the government have taken this step to please Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Sidhu. He has also accused DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay of helping Navjot Sidhu. 


He further said that Iqbalpreet Sahota was removed from the post of DGP and Chattopadhyay was appointed as he had earlier investigated the false case against Parkash Singh Badal in 2003, in which charges were not proved. 

After registering the drugs case, the Punjab Police is yet to nab Akali leader Bikram Majithia. After intelligence input, the police team reached Rajasthan to find Majithia, but he was not found.

Police are also investigating in Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Haryana, which is adjoining Punjab. Reportedly, now preparations are being made to raid in Uttar Pradesh (UP), based on new inputs received. 


On the other hand, Deputy CM Sukhjinder Randhawa, who is handling the Home Department, has said that the Akali Dal leader will be behind the bars. Majithia went underground as soon as he came to know about the process of registering the case. 

On Monday night, the BOI, Mohali has registered a case against Akali leader and former minister Bikram Majithia. The case has been registered by the Bureau of Investigation (BOI) at the State Crime Police Station in Mohali. The action has been taken after constant allegations against Majithia regarding the drugs case. The FIR has been registered under section 25/27A/29 of the NDPS Act. It is expected that the leader may be arrested soon.
