
The much-awaited geopolitical thriller Tehran was released on Zee5 on August 14, 2025. Directed by Arun Gopalan, Tehran revolves around a team of Delhi Police Special Cell who go to Iran to solve a 2012 bombing case.

Tehran is inspired by the infamous 2012 bombing near the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi.
In February 2012 when Congress was in power, an attack was carried out on Israeli diplomats. As per reports, a bomb exploded in an Israeli diplomat car in New Delhi injuring one embassy staff member, a local employee and two passers-by.
Not only this, but another bomb was planted in a car in Tbilisi, Georgia, but it failed to explode and was defused by Georgian police.
At the end credits scene, the makers have not mentioned about real life Delhi Police officers who actually went to Iran to solve the bomb blast case.
In the movie, S.I. Divya Rana dies when her team of Delhi Police Special Cell were engaged in shootout with a group of gunmen sent by 2012 bombings prime accused Afsher Hosseni. During the shootout, S.I. Divya Rana dies when a hand grenade exploded.
However, India distanced itself from the death saying that the SI was on a holiday in Saudi Arabia and she died in an accident.
As per reports, during its initial stages, India's MEA wanted some senior official to visit Tehran. However, Delhi Police stuck to its stand of sending the Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Yadav and Inspector Hriday Bhushan as they were the supervising and investigating officers respectively in the case.
Interestingly, at the start of the movie, the makers specially thanks to IPS officer Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
Coming back to the movie, it features John Abraham as Delhi Police Special Cell officer ACP Rajiv Kumar (RK), Neeru Bajwa as RAW officer Sheilaja, Alyy Khan as Police officer Neeraj, and more in the leading roles.
