The body of a young woman, believed to be around 20 years old, was found inside a hotel room near Jalandhar City Railway Station on Monday morning and the woman had reportedly been staying at the hotel for the past two days.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and found her dead inside Room No. 102.
The incident came to light at around 7 am. After reaching the hotel, police took possession of the body and started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death and at present, the identity of the woman has not been established, and police have also not been able to confirm where she was from.
According to information gathered during the initial investigation, the woman had been staying at the hotel for two days and during this period, a young man known as Chintu reportedly visited her at the hotel. Police are now trying to locate him and gather more information about his connection with the woman and his visits to the hotel.
Hotel staff reportedly told police that the young man had been visiting the woman on both days, he would allegedly stay in the room with her for around two to three hours during the daytime and then leave. Police are now examining these visits as part of the investigation and are taking steps to trace and question him.
A red suitcase was also recovered from the hotel room. Police found that the suitcase was empty. The condition of the room has also become part of the investigation and according to the information available so far, the room was in poor condition, with dirt and belongings scattered around.
Hotel staff have raised a suspicion that possible drug use could be connected to the woman's death, however, this is only a suspicion at this stage and has not been established by police and the exact cause of death is yet to be determined.
Police are investigating all available information before reaching any conclusion. This includes identifying the woman, finding out where she came from, establishing how long she had been staying at the hotel, examining the circumstances inside the room and tracing the young man who had reportedly been visiting her.
The recovered suitcase and other items found inside the room are also being examined as part of the investigation and police are expected to gather further information after questioning people connected with the hotel and locating the young man.
The woman's body has been taken into police possession as the investigation continues, however, the exact circumstances leading to her death remain unclear at present and police have not yet confirmed whether the death was due to natural causes, drug use, an accident or any other reason.
