A 29-year-old man from Jalandhar, who was part of a group of around 85 illegal immigrants travelling on a boat from France to England, went missing after the boat sank on October 1.
85 young men who were trying to reach the UK from France via the illegal ‘Dunky route.’ As per information received, on October 1, a boat carrying 85 individuals sank after its air chamber deflated and reportedly exploded. These youths were attempting to cross from Dunkirk city in France to the UK.
Among those affected was 29-year-old Arvinder Singh from Bhatnura Lubana village in Adampur, Jalandhar, who has gone missing. While French police managed to rescue most of the youths after the incident, Arvinder Singh remains unaccounted for. Out of five young men from Punjab, he is the only one still missing.
His family is in shock after receiving a call on October 2, informing them that four of the boys had been rescued by French authorities, but Arvinder Singh was missing. His younger brother shared this information and appealed to the government to help locate him. So far, the French police have not provided any updates to the family regarding the search for the missing youth.
The incidents involving Punjabis in foreign countries that come to light daily are heartbreaking. Yet, the dream of going abroad remains strong. People are willing to take any risk to enter foreign countries, regardless of the consequences.
