Richie, son of Akali leader and former MP Mohinder Singh Kaypee died in a late-night road accident near Model Town’s Mata Rani Chowk in Jalandhar. The accident reportedly involved a collision of four vehicles, and Richie is said to have sustained serious head injuries.
Family sources, including Kaypee's relative Amrik Singh, indicated that Richie was taken to hospital after the crash but later succumbed to his injuries.
City police, however, have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the accident.
Authorities are collecting eyewitness statements, reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas, and examining vehicle conditions to ascertain what led up to the multi-vehicle collision.
No official confirmation has emerged yet on whether any of the drivers involved fled the scene, or if there were violations of traffic rules. The police have also not disclosed the identities of the other vehicles or individuals involved.
As of now, Richie is the only confirmed fatality. Friends and relatives of Richie have started gathering at Kaypee's residence in the Model Town.
