Amid rainfall, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and others put on thunderstorm alert in next 2 hours

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) of Chandigarh unit's prediction of heavy rainfall in Punjab is turning out to be true. Multiple districts of Punjab are witnessing incessant rainfall since October 7 morning. The city of Jalandhar is continuously witnessing rainfall.

In the meantime, IMD Chandigarh has pushed a nowcast weather update in which it has put multiple districts of Punjab on thunderstorm alert.

Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and other districts on thunderstorm alert

IMD Chandigarh's nowcast states that till 12:41 pm, multiple districts of Punjab are expected to be hit by thunderstorm along with lightning.

It's official notification reads-

"Nowcast Punjab Time:07/10/2025 09:41Valid upto:07/10/2025 12:41 IST :2) Thunderstorm\Lightning with Moderate Rain very likely over parts of Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, SBS Nagar, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar."

Why is weather changing in Punjab?

IMD has revealed the technical reason why Punjab weather is all set to change from October 5. IMD's official release reads, "A Western Disturbance is likely to become active over Northwest India from October 4, 2025. It is expected to affect the Western Himalayan region and the adjoining plains of Northwest India during 05th to 07th October 2025."
