

The Maksudan vegetable market located in Jalandhar resounded with the thunder of bullets. A panchayat (meeting) called to resolve an old dispute between two parties in Mandi turned into a bloody clash. During this, one side opened fire openly, in which senior BJP leader Monu Puri was shot in the legs. The injured leader was immediately admitted to Satyam Hospital. Police reached the spot and started an investigation.
Panic broke out at the vegetable market located in Jalandhar’s Maksudan area on Tuesday afternoon when the firing suddenly started. It is being told that there was a dispute between the 2 groups of Mandi over something for some time.
Both the parties met to find an amicable solution to their disagreement.
One of the senior leaders of BJP Monu Puri went there to settle the issue. However, as soon as the discussion began, it turned out to be quite hot. Seeing this, the members of one side of the disagreement started shooting randomly. BJP Leader Monu Puri got shot in leg
Monu Puri, currently under medical treatment in the hospital, stated that his intention behind going there was to help them reconcile. Unfortunately, the matter got worse, and the attackers opened fire on them. Some of these shots were received by Monu Puri in his legs, and he fell down on the spot, soaked in blood.
Not only Monu Puri but even Tarun Bathla is also reported to have been injured in this shooting episode. The attackers left the scene immediately after the shooting occurred. Both of them are currently admitted at Satyam Hospital.
In his preliminary statements, the injured Monu Puri has levelled serious allegations of firing on some locals from the vegetable market. He made it clear that the attackers did not come with the intention of a compromise, but with full preparation. This public incident has raised big questions on the security system and law and order of the mandi.
As soon as the incident was reported, the police reached the Maksuda vegetable market and hospital. Police have cordoned off the spot and recovered empty cartridges. Police officials said CCTV footage was being scrutinised to identify the attackers. Police are currently investigating the case from all angles and statements of the injured are being recorded.
