Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann strongly targeted BJP while addressing people during ‘Shukrana Yatra’ in Jalandhar today and during this he alleged that the recent blast incidents in Amritsar and Jalandhar are a “signal” of BJP’s entry into Punjab and said Punjab will not allow hatred or division to spread again here.

Talks about Punjab’s dark past

Speaking during the event CM Mann said Punjab has already suffered through dark days of violence in the past and people now want peace, development and brotherhood and claimed that wherever BJP goes it creates an atmosphere of conflict and division and while referring to the recent incidents in Amritsar and Jalandhar he said such developments should be seen seriously and added that Punjab’s atmosphere would not be allowed to become disturbed again.

Calls out ‘religious politics’

Mann also accused the BJP, Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress of previously doing politics in the name of religion and said the people of Punjab understand such politics very well and believe in unity and giving an example he said people from all religions participate together in Ram Navami processions in Punjab showing the spirit of harmony in the state.

Punjab’s new sacrilege law

CM Mann also spoke about the Punjab government’s move to bring strict laws against sacrilege and drugs and strictly mentions that those involved in sacrilege cases would no longer escape action by claiming to be mentally unstable and also added that legal action would also be taken against family members of accused persons who try to use such claims to avoid punishment so that nobody dares to commit such crime.

Strong action on drugs

On the issue of drugs Mann said the government is preparing stricter laws against drug trafficking and claimed that earlier drug smugglers could easily get bail from police stations but now strong action will be taken against them and asserted that Punjab government is committed to protecting the youth from drugs and maintaining peace in the state.

Takes s jib at BJP

Taking another jibe at the BJP CM Mann said the party is trying to expand its presence in Punjab after its political success in other states and questioned how the BJP plans to seek support from Punjab while according to him the Centre has still not released around Rs 9,000 crore meant for the state and also referred to issues related to Chandigarh, Punjab University and river waters while attacking the BJP-led Centre.

Punjab moving ahead

The Chief Minister further said Punjab has moved ahead on the path of progress and development and people should stay away from communal politics and added that “seeds of hatred” would not be allowed to grow in Punjab at any cost.

The ‘Shukrana Yatra’ was organised after the passing of the “Jagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026” and the event began near Varinder Singh Ghuman Park in Jalandhar Central and during the programme Jalandhar Central Halka Incharge Nitin Kohli also presented a picture of Sri Harmandir Sahib to CM Mann.

A huge crowd of thousands of people was present during the event.
