The “Shukrana Yatra” being taken out across Punjab after the passing of the “Jaagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026” received overwhelming public support in Jalandhar Central on Thursday, where Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was welcomed by a huge gathering of people. Thousands of people gathered during the program and listened to the Chief Minister as the atmosphere remained filled with enthusiasm, devotion and support for the initiative linked with the faith and sentiments of Punjab.
People from all sections of society participated in large numbers and extended their support to the Punjab Government’s decision to safeguard the respect and sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Prominent personalities, including Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat, Mayor Vaneet Dhir, and Jalandhar Central Halqa In-charge Nitin Kohli, were also present on the occasion.
During the event, Jalandhar Central Halqa In-charge Nitin Kohli felicitated Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann Ji by presenting him with a holy picture of Sri Darbar Sahib Ji, a Kirpan and a Siropa as a mark of respect and honour. The gesture reflected Punjab’s deep-rooted devotion towards the Gurus and respect for Sikh traditions and religious sentiments.
The program started with the arrival of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, following which he addressed the large gathering present at the venue. While speaking during the “Shukrana Yatra”, CM Mann strongly targeted the BJP and alleged that the recent blast incidents in Amritsar and Jalandhar were a “signal” of BJP’s entry into Punjab. CM Mann also spoke in detail about the Punjab government’s move to bring stricter laws against sacrilege. Referring to the “Jaagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026”, he said strict action would be ensured against those involved in sacrilege cases and no accused would be able to escape punishment.
Jalandhar Central Halqa In-charge Nitin Kohli thanked the people of Punjab, especially the residents of Jalandhar Central, for giving such huge support and love to the “Shukrana Yatra”. He said the large public participation clearly showed that Punjabis are emotionally connected with the respect of the Gurus and support every step taken for protecting religious sentiments and maintaining communal harmony in the state.
Nitin Kohli further said that the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann remains fully committed towards protecting the faith of the people, maintaining peace and ensuring respect towards the teachings of the Gurus. He added that the “Shukrana Yatra” is not merely a political or social event, but a symbol of Punjab’s unity, devotion, brotherhood and collective respect for Sikh values and traditions.
The grand event in Jalandhar Central once again delivered the message that Punjab has always stood for peace, harmony, mutual respect and the teachings of the Gurus, and the people of the state will continue to carry forward this tradition with strength and unity in the coming years.
