A small dispute over an alleged ₹10 overcharge at a liquor shop In Jalandhar turned into a serious law and order issue leaving two youths injured and triggering protests by local residents.

What happened?

The incident took place in New Dashmesh Nagar where customers claimed they were being charged more than the official price for liquor and when they objected an argument broke out between the customers and the shop staff.

According to allegations by locals the situation quickly escalated when the contractor along with some individuals said to be linked to the Excise Department allegedly attacked the customers with sticks.

Injuries & damage alleged  

Two youths identified as Sunny Dhawan and Kamal were seriously injured in the incident and their scooter was also reportedly damaged during the clash. A female relative of one of the injured has demanded strict action against those responsible and she has also asked for compensation for the damage caused to their vehicle.

Public outrage reported

After the incident local residents gathered and staged a protest demanding the permanent closure of the liquor shop and action against those involved.
