In a tragic incident DSP Yogesh Kumar died after being shot by his own service revolver at his official residence in Phagwara on Monday morning and according to initial reports the incident took place around 7:30 AM near the Sadar Police Station area and as per reports the bullet hit him in the chest following which he was immediately rushed to Johal Hospital in Jalandhar where doctors declared him brought dead.
Preliminary information suggests that the incident may have happened while the officer was cleaning his service pistol in the morning and the weapon reportedly went off suddenly leading to the fatal injury.
Police personnel present nearby heard the gunshot and quickly shifted him to the hospital for treatment however his life could not be saved and at present the police have started an investigation to understand the exact circumstances of the incident where officials are also looking into all possible angles including whether it was an accident or a case of suicide.
