The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged before a Gurugram court that Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora misled the investigation in an alleged bogus mobile phone export and GST refund case. According to the ED, Arora denied having knowledge of the entities and individuals linked to the purchase and export of mobile phones during his interrogation.
The agency claims that Arora, who was the Chairman and Managing Director of M/s Hampton Sky Realty Limited (HSRL), played a key role in generating alleged proceeds of crime worth ₹102.5 crore through fake exports, forged documents, and fraudulent GST refunds. ED further alleged that Arora distanced himself from the operations of the company’s mobile division and claimed it was managed by Sanjeev Walia, despite bank documents suggesting otherwise.
During the hearing, ED also stated that Arora denied knowledge about the funds used to establish the mobile division and its employees, while the company’s CFO Deepak Sharma reportedly told investigators that Arora controlled the division and made major financial decisions.
Arora’s legal counsel argued that the case is based entirely on documentary evidence and claimed there was no need for extended custody, as records could be obtained directly from authorities.
Meanwhile, a Gurugram court has sent Sanjeev Arora to judicial custody till June 1. An emotional video of Arora’s family also surfaced online following the court proceedings, drawing reactions on social media.
AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal publicly reacted to the matter, claiming that Arora chose jail over joining the BJP, though the statement was political in nature and not part of the court proceedings.
