In a major development, an encounter broke out on Thursday in Jalandhar's Nurpur village. Two motorcycle-borne men open fired at a Police Nakka in the region. In retaliatory firing, both the men got injured and were admitted to hospital. An FIR was filed against them on December 23 in which there were accused of snatching a car at gunpoint.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur informed the media that based on technical and human intelligence input, the police set up a nakka to nab them. However, seeing the nakka, the two men identified as Arshdeep Singh and Tejveer Singh fired on the police.

CP Dhanpreet Kaur said-

"On December 22, an incident was reported in which there an attempt to snatch a vehicle at gunpoint. An FIR was lodged in Police Station Number 8, and hence investigation started. During investigation we raided nearby districts. On the basis of technical and human intelligence, we got input that the accused are in this area."

"Police forces then set up a nakka here to nab the two accused Arshdeep Singh and Tejveer Singh. They fired at the police party. In retaliatory firing, these two accused got injured. Currently, they have been sent to a hospital."

"Investigation has revealed that these two men carried out a crime in Batala as well. In the incident in Batala, two people had also died. So, Batala Police were also searching for them. After fleeing from Batala, they snatched a vehicle at gunpoint here. The accused were on motorcycle. Two weapons have been recovered."
