The double murder case in New Dashmesh Nagar of Jalandhar has taken a new turn after gangster Joga Pholriwal allegedly claimed responsibility for the killings through a social media post, in an Instagram story Joga Pholdiwal said that Saurabh and Simranjit Singh also known as Pappu were killed because they had allegedly harmed his associate Sukhman Brar in jail and in the post he stated that this was the consequence of that incident. He also warned that action would be taken against Saurabh's associates whether they are inside jail or outside.

The post was signed in the name of Joga Pholriwal and Khatri Group Nawanshahr.

According to social media claim Saurabh was killed on instructions of Joga Pholriwal and the post further alleged that a contract killer was provided with a pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition to carry out the attack meanwhile police are continuing their investigation into the case and there is talk of two youths being arrested and weapons being recovered in connection with the incident however police have not officially confirmed these reports. The shooting took place late on Friday night in New Dashmesh Nagar located in Jalandhar's Basti area. Simranjit Singh and Saurabh were seriously injured when unidentified attackers opened fire following which Simranjit died before reaching the hospital while Saurabh later died during treatment.

The incident was then registered as a double murder case and police believe the attack may have been pre-planned and linked to an old rivalry between two groups. Investigators suspect that contract killers had been keeping watch on Simranjit before the attack and according to investigation the attackers opened fire while Simranjit was on his way to the hospital while Saurabh who was with him at the time was also shot.

So far police have identified seven accused by name while two others are yet to be identified and raids are being conducted in Jalandhar and nearby districts to arrest all those involved. The investigation has also revealed that tensions between the two groups had reportedly been ongoing for several months and a video of an earlier altercation between the groups had also surfaced. Police are examining whether these previous incidents are connected to the murders or not. Investigators are also looking into an incident that reportedly took place at a shop on June 11 and that altercation is being linked to ongoing dispute between the two sides.

Police said that the father of one of the accused had been shot some time ago and Simranjit Singh's name had surfaced in that case as well however officials have said that it would be premature to draw conclusions before the investigation is completed. The families of the deceased have expressed anger over the incident and alleged that a complaint regarding a dispute had been submitted at Bhargav Camp police station a day before the shooting but no immediate action was taken.

Former Member of Parliament Sushil Kumar Rinku met the families of deceased and offered his condolences and said the incident raises concerns about law and order situation in Punjab and called for an impartial investigation and demanded strict punishment for those found guilty. He also urged Punjab government to take strong steps to improve law and order and ensure justice for victims' families.
