

A shooting incident in Jalandhar's Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Nagar area left a young man seriously injured and following the incident police have recovered a shell casing from the spot and have detained one youth for questioning as part of investigation. The injured youth has been identified as Rahul and he suffered a gunshot injury to his abdomen and was immediately taken to Satyam Hospital for treatment where doctors are treating him and said that his condition is currently stable.
According to information received the firing took place in early morning hours however there are different accounts regarding exact time of the incident and some reports suggest the shooting occurred around 4:00 AM while other information indicates it took place around 6:00 AM. Eyewitness Shalu Arora who is an e-rickshaw driver who lives near the said area said she was awakened by loud noises and abuses being shouted near a small bridge in locality and she stated that she saw a group of youths fleeing from scene in a black Bolero vehicle.
According to Shalu there were five people inside the vehicle and she claimed that around five rounds were fired during the incident ans she also said that the suspects were shouting abuses which drew her attention to the incident while police sources stated that the attack was allegedly carried out by Amarjit Singh along with Anand, Vishnu and two unidentified individuals and according to available information Amarjit Singh was reportedly dressed in traditional Nihang attire at time of the incident.
Some reports further claim that approximately 25 rounds were fired during the attack and it is alleged that Amarjit Singh and his associates opened fire and then fled from the scene after carrying out the incident. After receiving information about the shooting police teams reached the area and began an investigation following which officers from Basti Bawa Khel police station and Police Station No. 1 were involved in initial response and inquiry.
A large police contingent was also deployed at Satyam Hospital where Rahul was admitted and senior police officials including the ACP and Station House Officer (SHO) Jai Inder visited the hospital to gather information about incident and inquire about Rahul's condition, SHO Jai Inder said that matter falls under jurisdiction of Police Station No. 1 and stated that he reached the hospital after receiving information from Police Commissioner regarding the shooting. The officer confirmed that Rahul had suffered a gunshot injury and that police teams had started the investigation. Police also visited Rahul's residence to collect information and speak with family members and statements of relatives and other concerned persons are being recorded as part of the inquiry.
Rahul's family members were reportedly worried after his blood pressure dropped following injury and his associates also reached hospital after receiving information about the shooting through a call made from Rahul's phone, Rahul's mother was seen in distress at hospital as well while police officers continued their inquiries. Officials questioned family members to gather details that may help establish circumstances leading to the incident however police have not yet disclosed any possible motive behind the attack, SHO Jai Inder said that actual reason for the shooting will only become clear after investigation is completed. Officials also did not comment on reports regarding any previous enmity connected to the case meanwhile preliminary information circulating after the incident suggested that the attack may have been linked to earlier murder of a youth named Satta at Maksudan Mandi. However police have not officially confirmed this angle and continue to investigate all aspects of the case and the recovery of a shell casing from scene is expected to play an important role in the investigation and currently police are examining evidence collected from the spot and are questioning a detained youth in connection with the case.
