

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur has issued several restrictive orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, exercising her powers to maintain law and order within the limits of Police Commissionerate Jalandhar.
As per the orders, carrying any kind of weapon, including baseball bats, sharp-edged weapons, pointed objects, or any lethal weapon, in vehicles within the commissionerate limits has been prohibited.
Additionally, the orders ban taking out any kind of procession, carrying weapons during gatherings or rallies, raising slogans, and the assembly of five or more persons within the jurisdiction.
Through another order, the Police Commissioner has imposed a complete ban on carrying weapons at marriage palaces, banquet halls of hotels, wedding ceremonies, and other social functions. Owners of marriage palaces and banquet halls have been directed to install CCTV cameras on their premises and will be held responsible for compliance.
In a separate directive, landlords, PG owners, and the general public have been instructed not to keep tenants, PG residents, domestic helpers, or other workers without providing mandatory information at the nearest Punjab Police Sanjh Kendra.
Another order mandates that all firecracker manufacturers and dealers operating within the police commissionerate area must ensure that the noise level (in decibels) is clearly printed on firecracker packets.
Further, hotel, motel, guest house, and inn owners or managers have been directed not to accommodate any person without proper identity verification.
A self-attested photocopy of a valid photo identity card issued by a competent authority must be maintained as a record. In addition to verifying the mobile number, complete details of guests must be recorded in the prescribed register.
Information regarding guests staying at such establishments must be sent daily by 10 am to the concerned Station House Officer (SHO), and the registers must be verified every Monday by the concerned SHO. Records must be produced before the police whenever required.
It has also been made mandatory to inform the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO), Office of the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, whenever a foreign national stays at any hotel, motel, guest house, or inn. Installation of CCTV cameras has been made compulsory at corridors, lifts, reception counters, and main entrances of all hotels, restaurants, motels, guest houses, and inns.
The owners or managers will also be responsible for immediately informing the concerned police station or police control room if any suspicious person stays or visits their premises, or if any guest is arrested by police of any state or district in connection with a criminal case.
All the above orders will remain in force from January 9, 2026, to March 8, 2026.
