A joint team of the Police and Excise Department carried out a raid at a house in the city’s West constituency and recovered a large quantity of liquor where a person identified as Rajinder Kumar alias Raju Chauhan was arrested during the operation.

Confidential tip-off received

According to officials the raid was conducted after receiving a confidential tip-off about illegal liquor being stored at a house in Nakha Wale Bagh in Madhuban Colony and acting on this information the police and excise team reached the spot and searched the premises.

50 cases of liquor recovered  

During the search more than 50 cases of liquor were found inside the house and a senior officers including the SP, ACP and SHO were present during the raid along with the Excise Department team. ACP Atish Bhatia said that the accused was allegedly using the residential house for illegal liquor-related activities and confirmed that around 50 to 60 cases of liquor were recovered and the accused was arrested on the spot.

Previous cases unveiled

Officials also said that some previous cases are already registered against the accused and these are now being reviewed as part of the investigation and the Municipal Corporation team was also informed after it was found that the house was being misused following which a team visited the location and inspected the building.

During the raid some items were also taken from people present at the spot on suspicion and these included four gas cylinders. Police said these items will be returned after the investigation is completed.
