A police chase in Jalandhar ended with two alleged robbers crashing a stolen motorcycle into a tree while attempting to escape. The two suspects were arrested by the police after the accident and the stolen motorcycle was recovered from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Vikram and Amandeep Singh, both residents of Mithapur. Police have taken the duo on remand and started questioning them to investigate their possible involvement in other pending robbery cases.
ACP Manmohan Singh said the investigation began after Subhash, a resident of Kolkata, filed a complaint with the police. He told police that he was travelling towards Vijay Colony on his motorcycle when three youths intercepted him.
According to the complaint, two of the suspects were wearing masks. The accused allegedly threatened Subhash and snatched his motorcycle before fleeing from the spot. His ATM cards, driving licence and ₹8,000 in cash were also inside the vehicle.
After registering a case, police teams began checking vehicles in the area. During a naka, officers spotted two youths riding a motorcycle and checked its registration number.
The verification revealed that the motorcycle was the same vehicle allegedly stolen from Subhash. Police immediately signalled the riders to stop, but the suspects allegedly accelerated and tried to flee.
ASI Balwant Singh and the police team chased the suspects. During the pursuit, the accused allegedly panicked and the motorcycle rider lost control.
The bike crashed into a roadside tree, throwing both men onto the road. Police said the road was wet due to rain, resulting in serious injuries to both suspects.
Police reached the spot soon after the crash and arrested both suspects. The stolen motorcycle was also recovered.
The accused have now been taken on police remand. Investigators are questioning them to establish whether they were involved in other robbery cases and to trace the third person allegedly involved in the robbery.
ACP Manmohan Singh said further investigation is underway.
