Jalandhar Rural Police have registered 15 FIRs and arrested 17 accused during a coordinated anti-drug operation carried out at multiple identified hotspots across the district.

The drive was conducted under the supervision of SSP Jalandhar Rural Harvinder Singh Virk, PPS, along with SP (Investigation) Vineet Ahlawat, IPS. Police said the operation formed part of a focused strategy to identify drug-related hotspots, act against suppliers and peddlers, and link enforcement with awareness and de-addiction measures.

Three-pronged anti-drug strategy

Police said the ongoing anti-drug campaign has been structured around three components: hotspot monitoring and enforcement measures, hotspot monitoring and awareness measures, and hotspot monitoring and de-addiction measures.

The reference document for the campaign lists enforcement actions such as FIR registration under the NDPS Act, arrests of drug peddlers and suppliers, preventive action, raids on suspected drug-selling points, and action against properties linked to drug-related activities. It also includes awareness meetings, school-level programmes, anti-drug rallies and sports events, besides identifying and facilitating treatment for addicts at de-addiction centres and OOAT centres.

According to SSP Harvinder Singh Virk the objective of the campaign is not limited to arrests and seizures, but also includes sustained monitoring of vulnerable areas, public participation, awareness among young people and treatment support for persons struggling with addiction. Police said the drive against drug trafficking and abuse will continue across Jalandhar Rural.
