A dilapidated building in the old vegetable market area of Kapurthala collapsed suddenly around midnight. As debris from the collapse fell onto the electric wires running in front of the building, the wires snapped and several nearby electric poles were also damaged, leading to a complete power outage in the area.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in the incident. It’s worth noting that the vegetable market is usually crowded during the daytime. Had the incident occurred during the day, it could have caused significant damage.
According to local shopkeepers, the building had been closed for the past 8–9 years. The structure is approximately 100 years old and once housed a shop known as "Bali Samosa Wale." After the owner's death, the building remained unused.
Additionally, it should be noted that heavy rains have been lashing Kapurthala since Tuesday. Around 2:30 AM on Wednesday morning, the building suddenly collapsed. The loud noise awakened residents in the area, who rushed outside. Though there were no injuries or loss of life, the entire area’s power supply has been severely affected.
Debris from the collapsed building fell onto the electric wires, breaking several electric poles nearby. The Powercom department has been informed, and work to clear the debris from the site is currently underway.
