

The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police held a meeting with owners and managers of restaurants, hotels, bars, cafés and other eateries to strengthen public safety and prevent incidents involving firearms and weapons.
The meeting was held at the Conference Hall in Jalandhar under the directions of Commissioner of Police Satinder Singh, IPS. DCP Law & Order Jasroop Kaur Bath, IPS, and DCP City Aditya S. Warrier, IPS, also led the meeting. ADCP Industrial Security Manpreet Shinhmar, PPS, ADCP City-2 Madhvi Sharma, PPS, and ACP Model Town Manmohan Singh, PPS, were also present.
During the meeting, police officials encouraged establishments to register themselves as ‘Firearm-Free Zones’ in accordance with directions issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Under the initiative, establishments that register as Firearm-Free Zones will prohibit visitors from carrying firearms or weapons inside their premises. Owners and managers will also have to prominently display notices both inside and outside the establishments informing visitors about the restriction.
According to the police, the initiative is aimed at preventing negligent or intentional firing, road-rage incidents and disputes from escalating into serious incidents. The move is also intended to make public places safer.
The Commissionerate Police held one-to-one meetings with owners and managers of different establishments across the city. Officials explained the purpose of the initiative and the steps required for its implementation.
Business owners also shared their concerns and suggestions with the police.
Discussions also covered security arrangements, traffic management, law and order and public safety. Police officials particularly discussed concerns involving young people and families visiting cafés and restaurants.
The police appealed to owners and managers to support the initiative and register their establishments as Firearm-Free Zones and officials said cooperation between the police and business establishments would be important for maintaining law and order and improving safety in public places across Jalandhar.
