In an attempt to keep the city of Jalandhar beautified and free from 'visual pollution', the Municipal Corporation has passed strict orders. While Jalandhar is undergoing beautification drive, the visual landscape of the city has been deteriorating for a long time due to the unchecked spread of illegal advertisements.

According to reports, multiple chowks that were recently upgraded by the Municipal Corporation are again flooded with unapproved advertisement boards and posters.

In light of this situation, Mayor Vaneet Dhir and Municipal Commissioner Sandeep Rishi have taken a firm decision and issued clear instructions that illegal advertisements will no longer be permitted at any intersection in the city. If illegal banners or signs are found anywhere, action will be taken directly against the printer printing them and a police FIR will be filed against them.

Jalandhar Mayor Vaneet Dhir said, "It is high time that certain Religious & Social Societies around the city need to act responsibly .. They need to resort to various other viable means and platforms available to exhibit and advertise their services & functionality- such as print media, brochures, pamphlets , non-woven carry bags, etc."

"Sign boards, hoardings, banners, and posters create visual pollutions , environmental hazards, and public safety risks. Their unchecked display results in a cluttered cityscape and instead negatively impacts in the city scenario. Moreover enormous amounts ranging from approx. Rs 4-5 crores are wasted in such practices which can be used elsewhere for many many other worthy causes."

"Social awareness needs to be created at a profound level to discard such advertisements and campaigns. I urge that social media can act as a powerful tool to initiate termination of such approaches and practices."
