Jalandhar Municipal Corporation’s plan to launch a special mobile application for street light complaints has been delayed due to technical difficulties and the app which was earlier scheduled to be launched on February 25, 2026 is now expected to be made ready by the coming week as confirmed by Mayor Vaneet Dhir.
Talking about the delay Mayor Vaneet Dhir said that some technical issues came up during the final stage of preparation due to which the app could not be launched on time however he assured that the work is in its final stage and the system will be fully ready very soon.
The mobile application is being developed by HPL in association with Municipal Corporation Jalandhar and the main aim of this project is to solve a long-pending problem in city related to non-functional street lights and dark spots in many areas and as per official details shared earlier by the Mayor Jalandhar has nearly 1.10 lakh street lights installed across the city and out of these around 74,000 street lights are currently under maintenance of HPL under a previous agreement and around 30,000 to 35,000 street lights did not have a proper or unified maintenance system for a long time.
This gap in responsibility created repeated issues and whenever complaints were raised about faulty street lights and the company often said that it was not responsible for lights outside its contract area and this led to confusion and delays in repair work and according to the Mayor this situation has been continuing for almost a decade and many areas in the city faced dark patches due to non-working street lights.
To fix this problem Municipal Corporation has now signed a new agreement with HPL and under this new system, all street lights will be brought under one unified maintenance structure and the biggest feature of the upcoming mobile app is that citizens will be able to directly report complaints.
Through the app residents can simply click a photo of a non-working street light and upload it with location details and once the complaint is registered the company will be required to repair faulty light within 48 hours and if the repair is not done within the given time a penalty will be imposed on the company.
Officials believe this system will make the entire process faster, more transparent and more accountable and along with this it will also remove confusion between different maintenance zones and ensure that complaints reach right team directly without delay and the project is expected to improve safety in many residential and commercial areas of Jalandhar especially during night hours. It will also give citizens a more active role in reporting civic issues and improving basic services in the city.
