Jalandhar has become the second city of Punjab to implement E-Challan system. E-Challan system in Jalandhar was operationalised at 4 chowks of the city (PAP Chowk, BSF Chowk, BMC Chowk and Guru Nanak Mission Chowk) on October 12 after weeks of trial runs following its September 29 inauguration.
The E-Challan system has been operationalised to keep the city's traffic smooth and increase the safety of people driving or walking on the road. In the meantime, ADCP Vineet Kumar informed True Scoop News that on daily basis approx 300 e-challans are being issued against traffic violators. It means in the last 14 days, approximately over 4000 e-challans have been issued.
Interestingly, without helmet is considered among the most common traffic violation against which E-Challans are generally issued. However, in Jalandhar, without helmet is not among the top 3.
According to ADCP (Operations and Security) Vineet Kumar, on an average 300 E-Challans are being issued on daily basis. The most common violation that people are doing is red-light jump. Currently, our focus is mostly on red light violations.
ADCP Vineet further said that cameras are also detecting wrong side driving, and if vehicle are on Zebra Crossing or now. But currently, E-Challans are focused on red-light jumps and hence sending online challans mostly on red light violation.
ADCP further informed that E-Challan for without helmet and seat belt have not started yet.
After weeks of trial runs following its September 29 inauguration, the city’s Rs 42-crore Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) became operational on October 14, with e-challan facilities now functional at four major chowks.
The ITMS initially underwent trial runs in early October to ensure the cameras, sensors and automated enforcement mechanisms were functioning properly.
Each e-challan carries detailed information, including the nature of the violation, date, time, and photographic evidence, ensuring transparency and authenticity
