
The Punjab government has announced an optional holiday on July 31 on the occasion of the martyrdom day of Udham Singh. This holiday has been included in the list of government holidays for 2025.
The government has released a list of 28 optional holidays for the year 2025-26. Out of all these, government employees can take any two holidays according to their convenience. The holiday of July 31 is also part of this list.
It is important to note that this holiday is not gazetted, i.e. not all offices, schools, colleges or shops are necessarily closed on this day. Only those government employees who consider this day special can apply for leave.
Shaheed Udham Singh was an Indian revolutionary hauled for assassinating Michale O’ Dwyer in 1940 in London, in agitation of the Jallianwala Bhag massacre. This year shall commemorate his 85th martyrdom day.
Shaheed Udham Singh is remembered with respect throughout the country for his heroism and patriotism.
