Government employees in Punjab will get a holiday on Friday, September 12, for Saragarhi Day. This new holiday is declared as per the official state notification. Schools across many areas have already been closed for over ten days due to recent floods, and some districts still have schools shut by local orders.
September 12 is a holiday limited to only government employees, as per the official notice of Punjab (No. 06/01/2024-2PP.3/677). Following Friday holiday, it has been virtually assured for most employees to get two more holidays on Saturday and Sunday, resulting in three consecutive days of no work.
Saragarhi Day is celebrated in Punjab as a tribute to the bravery of soldiers during the Battle of Saragarhi.
Government employees and schools will have an additional Holiday on this day to observe the significance of the important day.
Apart from their three holidays of September, 12, 13 & 14, the month of September will have holidays on 21 and 28 being a Sunday.
The banks in Punjab will have additional holidays for September, 28th and 29th on the occasion of Maha Saptami and Maha Ashtami respectively.
