The Punjab government has presented the Budget 2026-27 for a total expenditure of ₹2,60,437 crores, reflecting the government's focus on economic growth while ensuring fiscal discipline.

According to the estimates of the budget presented for the fiscal year 2026-27, the Effective Revenue Deficit is estimated to be 2.06 percent of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). This is a positive sign for the people of the state as the government is ensuring the efficient management of the state's revenues as well as expenditure.

Another significant factor is the Fiscal Deficit of the government of Punjab. This is an important indicator of the financial health of the government. The Fiscal Deficit is estimated to be 4.08 percent of the GSDP. This is a positive sign for the people of the state as the government is ensuring a proper balance between development expenditure and fiscal discipline.

While presenting the Budget 2026-27 in the Vidhan Sabha, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the government is ensuring the development of public welfare schemes, infrastructure development, education, health care for the people of the state, and women-centric schemes without compromising the fiscal discipline of the government.

This budget also marks the last full-year financial plan of the AAP government before the 2027 Assembly elections, with a clear focus on fulfilling pre-poll promises while ensuring sustainable economic management.

By keeping the fiscal deficit below the 5 percent mark, the Punjab government aims to retain investor confidence, maintain healthy revenue streams, and ensure long-term financial stability. Experts note that this careful fiscal planning will allow the state to continue its developmental initiatives without overburdening public finances.
