Stubble Burning decreased in Jalandhar by almost 80% last year, DC reveals 2 strategies to stop farm fires this year

With October and November still far away, the issue of stubble burning has started to pop up again. Punjab and Haryana are often accused of practicing stubble burning that ultimately pollutes the air and turn Delhi, Haryana and even Punjab gas chambers.

However, Jalandhar in the year 2024 witnessed a sharp decline in Stubble Burning cases. Jalandhar DC Himanshu Aggarwal in an exclusive interview with True Scoop informed that stubble burning cases fell by almost 80 percent in the district.

DC Himanshu Aggarwal also highlighted two strategies that the administration will be taking in order to control the stubble burning cases in the coming months.

"In 2023, 1200 cases of stubble burning were recorded in Jalandhar. Last year, it was reduced and total cases that were registered were 150. Therefore, there is more than 80% reduction in stubble burning cases in Jalandhar. Jalandhar was among the top in terms of reduction in stubble burning.

Last year multiple activities were done to reduce stubble burning. The problem of stubble burning generally pops up in the month of October and November. But, we have already made strategies to curb it in two meetings," said Jalandhar DC.

"We have made two strategies in this. One is to diversify paddy-related areas. For example farming of Basmati, crops domestication, etc. Second is Ex-situ machines that is also called crop residue management. We have already given Ex-situ machines to farmers on subsidy. The district has a total of 7000 machines by which we will try to manage the stubble burning. There are a total of 100 hotspot villages. Those Nodal Officers are already visiting such villages and spreading awareness among farmers.
