A violent clash broke out late at night in the Law Gate area of Phagwara following a dispute over the speed of a vehicle. The confrontation reportedly escalated into stone and bottle pelting, leaving a security guard injured and prompting allegations of firing.

Female Guard Claims Driver Returned With Group

According to female security guard Kajal, she had asked a car driver to slow down after allegedly noticing the vehicle being driven at high speed. An argument followed, after which the driver reportedly left the area.

Kajal alleged that the same driver later returned with around 30 to 35 unidentified youths. The group allegedly abused the security staff and used offensive language, triggering a confrontation between the youths and security guards.

Police Were Informed Before Violence Escalated

Kajal said she informed the Cheher police post about the situation. According to her, police reached the spot but later left without taking action. She alleged that shortly afterwards, the group returned and began hurling bricks and glass bottles at the security guards.

Security guard Vishal was injured in the attack and was taken for medical treatment.

Three Rounds of Firing Alleged

The female security guard also alleged that unidentified youths fired three rounds during the confrontation. However, police have not confirmed the firing claim so far.

The investigating officer said CCTV footage from cameras installed around the area was being examined. He stated that the allegation of firing could only be confirmed after the footage and other evidence were properly examined.

Law Gate Secretary Seeks Strict Action

Law Gate secretary Gurwinder Singh Multani alleged that a person running a PG under the name of Bhatia PG was also involved in the incident. He demanded an impartial investigation and strict action against anyone found responsible.

Police Begin CCTV-Based Investigation

ASI Manjit Singh, who reached the Civil Hospital, said police had received information about a fight at Law Gate. Regarding the alleged firing, he said it was too early to confirm the claim.

Police are now examining CCTV footage and other evidence to determine how the confrontation started, identify those involved and establish whether firearms were used during the incident.
