The long-awaited Jullundur Gymkhana Club elections are now expected to be held after the club's Annual General Meeting (AGM), which, according to insider sources, is likely to take place sometime in August.

No official announcement

While the club has not officially announced the date of the AGM, sources indicate that it may be held either on August 9 or August 16, as the meeting is traditionally conducted on a Sunday.

Elections within 45 days of AGM

As per the club's election rules, the management elections must be conducted within 45 days of the AGM and this means that if the AGM takes place in August, the elections are also expected to be held soon afterwards, bringing an end to months of uncertainty over the poll schedule.

Elections were expected much earlier

The election process was originally expected to begin much earlier this year and the AGM had initially been scheduled for March 14, when the election date was also expected to be announced, however, the meeting was postponed after Divisional Commissioner Ramvir was occupied with the Punjab Investment Summit.

No fresh date was announced at the time, delaying the entire election process.

Elections postponed

With fresh indications now pointing towards an August AGM, election-related activity has once again picked up pace within the club and adding to the momentum, the Achievers Group has already announced candidates for four major posts.

Achievers Group’s candidates

Arvind Abrol, Satish Thakur, Gora, Vijay Khullar and Mandeep Singh Gujral of the group said political activity surrounding the upcoming elections has intensified even before the official election announcement.

According to the information shared by the group, Dheeraj Seth has been named for the post of Junior Vice President, Amit Kukreja for Secretary, Harpreet Singh (Goldy) for Joint Secretary and Saurabh Khullar for Treasurer.
