Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have arrested Manjeet Singh Bedi, an Indian-origin man wanted by the FBI in connection with an alleged fraud case in the US.
According to police, Bedi allegedly forged documents and cheated people on the pretext of sending them abroad and police also said he was also wanted in the US in a fraud case involving around $600,000.
The FBI states that Bedi, a naturalised US citizen, operated Asian Grocery Store in Tacoma, Washington and he allegedly misused SNAP food assistance benefits by swiping beneficiaries’ EBT cards, giving them cash instead of food and keeping around half the amount.
The FBI had charged him with wire fraud and SNAP benefits fraud and he was earlier ordered to surrender his passport and remain in Washington state and according to the FBI, Bedi later crossed into Canada by car and fled to India. A federal arrest warrant was issued against him in May.
