
In what is termed as a game changer for Indian Railways, Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has announced Car Ferry Train. It will be India's first-ever car ferry train service that will transport private cars along with their owners.
India's Car Ferry Train will run between Maharashtra's Kolad to Goa's Verna. Travellers will be able to load their private vehicles onto the Kolad-Verna Car Ferry Train and travel in connected passenger coaches, covering the journey in just 12 hours.
By road if you drive from the aforementioned route, it generally takes 20-22 hours due to traffic congestion and winding ghats.
As per reports, Kolad-Verna Car Ferry Train will start at the time of Ganesh Chaturthi. Although the official start has not been announced by the Indian Railways, Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 is expected to start from August 27.
This ferry train was earlier used to carry trucks. Now it will be used for private cars. Each train will have 20 special coaches. Two cars can fit in each coach. In this way, a total of 40 cars can go in one trip.
The train will leave at 5 pm, will reach at 5 am But this train will run only if at least 16 cars are booked. The train will leave from Kolad at 5 pm and reach Verna at 5 am. One has to reach Kolad station at 2 pm to load the cars. Passengers will not be allowed to stay inside their cars during the journey. They will travel in nearby coaches.
This is the first car ferry train in India. This will change the way people travel to Goa. It will give the comfort of rail travel and the convenience of taking your car to your destination.
