A helicopter landed in the middle of the cricket ground to interrupt the progress of a county championship match between Gloucestershire and Durham. The air ambulance arrived at the Bristol County Ground when the game was just five balls old, delaying play for 20 minutes on the opening day of the Division Two encounter.

The helicopter's landing was verified by an announcement, which said it was due to a "critical incident locally" that had been reported to the ground staff.

The South Western Ambulance Service subsequently issued its own statement, claiming that the air ambulance ‘supported our response to an emergency event at a nearby residential property,' and that they were able to do so because of the air ambulance's landing location's prominence.

A helicopter landed on the pitch after only five balls were bowled in the contest. It took roughly 20 minutes for the action to resume after that.

During the match, it was stated that an air ambulance would be launched onto the field to transport victims of a serious accident to the hospital right away. The players were then evacuated off the field by the Great Western Air Ambulance charity chopper, which landed on the ground.

‘With a Critical Care Doctor and two Specialist Paramedics on board, the crew was on their way back to their air base after responding to another call-out in Bridgwater, so they landed at the adjacent Bristol County Grounds to get to the patient swiftly.

‘We apologise for any trouble this has caused everyone at the cricket grounds, and we appreciate their cooperation in allowing our staff to arrive safely and respond to the patient in need.’
