Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United footballer, was remanded in custody on Monday after appearing at Manchester Magistrates' Court accused of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault.

The 21-year-old forward will remain behind bars for more than a month after the judge decided against releasing him on bail. On November 21, he will show up in front of Manchester Crown Court.

The allegations included attempting to rape a woman aged 16 or over on October 22, 2021; engaging in controlling or coercive behavior between December 1, 2018, and October 15, 2022; and assault causing actual bodily damage to a person between December 12, 2021, and December 31, 2021.

Following an allegation that Greenwood violated his bail terms by making contact with the alleged victim, he was arrested again on Saturday. He was imprisoned on Saturday and Sunday night while he awaited his court appearance this morning.

Greenwood has been suspended by United "waiting for the outcome of the judicial process." The team has already stated that he is receiving his full salary—approximately £75,000 per week—during the suspension. His most recent performance was on January 22 in a Premier League victory over West Ham United.
