Heartbreak for India: Great Britain takes Bronze home as team India loses 4-3 at Tokyo Olympics

In the bronze medal match, the Indian women's hockey team faced Great Britain. Missing an opportunity to win an Olympic medal for the country, the Indian women’s hockey team loses 4-3.

Nonetheless, Indian hockey stars gave a neck to neck fight and the country is proud of its women's hockey team.

In the first quarter, the GB had two penalty corners, but Indian goalkeeper Savita Poonia made both of them worthless. The first quarter of the game went goalless.

Britain took the lead in the second quarter when Eli Rier scored in the 16th minute and Sarah Robertson scored in the 24th minute.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first quarter, the Indian squad rallied to score three goals in four minutes in the second quarter. Gurjit Kaur evened up the initial score 2-2 in the 25th and 26th minutes. After that, Vandana Kataria scored in the 29th minute to give Team India the lead. Until halftime, the score remained unchanged with team India lead 3-2.

In the second half of the game, Great Britain made comeback into the game by scoring another goal, levelling the score 3-3.

In the final quarter, Great Britain once again took a lead by scoring another goal 4-3.

India put pressure on GB with 90 seconds left.

Team India lost its chance to win an Olympic medal for the country, however has scripted history by qualifying to the semi-finals for the first time at Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Indian women's hockey competed for bronze at Oi Hockey Stadium against Great Britain.

The first time the women's hockey team competed in the Olympics was at the 1980 Moscow Games. Their second time in the Olympics was in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
