The first day of the first Test in Chennai between India and England continues. England, batting first after winning the toss, have scored 200+ runs after losing 2 wickets. Captain Joe Root and Dominic Sibley are at the crease. Root made his 20th century of Test career. He scored a century in the third Test in a row. 

Earlier, Root had scored 1 double century and 1 century in the last two Tests against Sri Lanka. So far, 160+ runs have been partnered between Root and Sibley. Sibley also made his fourth fifty of the Test career. This is his second consecutive fifty. Earlier, he scored 56 runs in the second innings of the Gaul Test against Sri Lanka. Root became the 10th batsman ever and the first since South African batsman Hashim Amla in 2017 to score a century in his 100th Test match.

Before Root, the Pakistani duo of Javed Miandad (145 in 1989) and Inzamam-ul-haq (184 in 2005) were the only two batsmen to score a ton in 100th Test against the Indian attack. Root completed his century with a single off Washington Sundar off 162 balls.
