IPL 2021: MI to take on RCB in opening match at MA Chidambaram Stadium today

The game of fours and sixes will start today at 7:30 pm at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. There will be 60 matches in 52 days, 8 teams will participate in the tournament. Today, the first match will be against Indian captain Virat Kohli’s team Royal Challengers Bangalore and vice-captain Rohit Sharma’s team Mumbai Indians.

From October 18, India will host T-20 World Cup 2021, wherefore it can be considered as team selection trial matches for the T-20 World Cup. India will be playing some T-20 matches including the World Cup after the IPL tournament, that’s why the selectors will keep an eye on the tournament for team selection. The T-20 future of Shikhar Dhawan and Kuldeep Yadav will totally depend on their game in IPL 2021.

This year there will be five X-Factor players in the IPL. Let’s have a look at them.

Rishabh Pant: Pant will be a skipper of Delhi’s team ‘Delhi Capitals’. He did not shine in IPL 2020, but his recent performance is remarkable.

Suryakumar Yadav: He is popular for his long hits. He is playing for MI, in 2018 he contributed 1416 runs from his bat.

Prashid Krishna: He will be seen in Kolkata Knight Riders. He performed excellently during India vs England tournament. He is known for his speed and pace.

Ishaan Kishan: Last year he hit 30 sixes, which are maximum in numbers. After seeing his game, it is expected that he may become a part of the Indian team for the World Cup, and lastly

Devdutt Padikkal: He will be playing for RCB this year as well. Last year, he scored more runs than Kohli and AB de Villiers.

This year there are some changes in the rules of IPL.

i.        It is compulsory that the inning must be finished within 90 minutes. 

ii.       Super over can be played within the span of one hour after the match.

iii.      Short runs will be checked by the third-umpire.

iv.      Decision about no ball can be changed by the third-umpire.

v.       On-field umpires cannot grant soft-singles.

Virat Kohli motivated the team in the “Chak De” style. He said, “I wholeheartedly welcome those players who joined RCB this year. This season also the team will play the game energetically. I hope you all will utilize your time in the field effectively and efficiently in favor of your game. There will be no change in our game, we have played the game with energy and this year as well the level of our energy will remain constant. We together can change the statics of the game this year.”

The final match of the IPL tournament will be played on the 30th of May 2021. Matches are scheduled in such a way that a game will be played in one day, but on 11 days the game will be played twice a day. The first match at 3:30 noon and the second at 7:30 in the evening on the same day. The tournament will be live telecasted in 120 countries as well as due to the global pandemic covid-19 fans will not enjoy the game at the stadium.
