It is Chennai Super Kings versus Punjab Kings today for the eighth match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The toss was won by MS Dhoni-led CSK, who opted to bowl first against KL Rahul- led PBKS.

PBKS has now finished batting and their play has not been quite strong just like the last match as they struggled to make 106 runs in 20 overs.

To open the match, PBKS KL Rahul and Mayank Aggarwal came out to the middle and faced the first over Deepak Chahar, who had a new ball in his hands. This new ball created a fortune for CSK, as Chahar took his first wicket of Mayank Aggarwal for 0 off 2 balls as the ball hit the stump-off.

This however gave a monotonous start to the innings and the pain grew when captain KL Rahul had to face an early defeat as he got run-out by Ravindra Jadeja for 5 on 7 deliveries. Chahar took another wicket of PBKS a10s he sent Chris Gayle back to the pavilion for 10 on 10 balls. Notably, Chahar's delivery to Chris was brilliantly caught by Ravindra Jadeja.

Shock! PBKS lost another significant player Nicholas Pooran, who was thought to revive the match, for 0. Pooran's wicket came as a hattrick for Chahar and this time the shot was caught by Shardul Thakur. After losing consecutive wickets, seemed like PBKS lost its spirit as the next player in the middle- Deepak Hooda was departed for 0 by Chahar.

Moeen Ali then took Jhye Richardson's wicket in the 12th over when he was about to stroll past 15 on 22balls. Shahrukh Khan of PBKS, filled with hope and spirits, hit the first six of the match on Moeen Ali's delivery. Shahrukh strived to bring Punjab back in the game after hitting boundaries.

However, Khan could not play for longer as Sam Curran made him depart for 47 on 36 balls. With this, Khan was only 3 runs short of his maiden IPL fifty.

CSK Deepak Chahar took 4 wickets on 13 runs.
