The incident happened in the sixth over of the innings when Glenn Maxwell was bowling his part-time off-spinners. The second ball of the over landed outside the off-stump to which Wade tried to play a sweep shot. However, he couldn’t put bat to ball and it hit his front pad which was in line with the off-stump. The umpire quickly upheld the appeal but Wade was even quicker to signal for DRS challenging the on-field decision.
However, the decision was not overturned as the ultra edge did not pick any edge of the bat. As a result, Mathew Wade was given out. Not convinced with the decision at all, Mathew Wade let his anger come out in the dressing room. As soon as he went in, Wade threw his helmet away and also banged his bat on probably his kit bag. The Australian batter was batting well in the middle but was given out in the wrong fashion.
