Kolkata Knight Riders, PM Modi extend greetings on ‘Shubho Mahalaya’

Goddess Durga is said to arrive to Earth every year on this day, according to Hindu belief, because it is her paternal home.

Shubho Mahalaya is the last day of Pitru Paksha or Pitripaksha, the forefathers' fortnight, in the month of Ashwina, according to the Hindu calendar. People pay respect to their forefathers and mothers during Pitripaksha, a 16-day festival. Mahalaya is observed on Amavasya, the final day of Krishnapaksha. Goddess Durga is said to arrive to Earth every year on this day, according to Hindu belief, because it is her paternal home.

Kolkata Knight Riders' official Twitter account wished their supporters a happy Mahalaya with a tweet. They also uploaded a photograph with a Bengali caption. KKR said, “On this auspicious day, wishing all our fans a 𝘏𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘺 𝘔𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘢.”


On the occasion of Mahalaya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his wishes to the whole country. On this auspicious occasion, the Prime Minister hailed his fellow citizens and sought Goddess Durga's blessings for the “well-being of our planet and the welfare of our citizens.” May everyone be happy as well as healthy in the times to come, Modi wished.

Prime Minister Modi tweeted from his official Twitter handle, “Shubho Mahalaya! We bow to Maa Durga and seek her blessings for the well-being of our planet and the welfare of our citizens. May everyone be happy as well as healthy in the times to come”.


Mahalaya starts the excitement and festivities of Durga Pooja and Navaratri. With the start of the final round of preparations for the major festival, Goddess Durga's idols are carried to various pandals. Mahalaya evokes a sense of optimism, festivity, and warmth in the run-up to the most anticipated festival.
