Punjab is in the middle of its monsoon season this July, and the weather outlook presents a strong picture of traditional North Indian summer rains combined with unabating heat.
Temperature trends
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD)—Punjab Weather Reports & AccuWeather—Punjab July 2025 forecast
- Day temperatures in Punjab begin the month on oven-setting 37–41°C, with Bahawalpur and Shekhupura cities witnessing temperatures exceeding 41°C.
- Nights provide little respite and rarely drop below 27–32°C in all places.
- During the last week of July, there is likely to be a general drop in temperature, with average day temperatures dropping to approximately 35°C towards the end of the month.
Rainfall pattern
- July is the wettest month of Punjab, with more than 20 rainy days and an average total rainfall of 243 mm.
- The biggest rainfalls are predicted during the second part of July, particularly on the 7th and 8th of July, when certain areas might experience more than 60 mm of rain in a single day.
- There will continue to be rain frequently throughout the month, with very little dry spell; there will be patchy rain or thunderstorms every single day.
- Amritsar, say, will receive around 199 mm of rain on 9–10 rainy days, and likewise will Ludhiana and other urban centers.
Humidity & wind
- There is high humidity, at levels of about 52%, that increases the intensity of heat.
- The winds are moderate, averaging 16 km/h, and at times provide relief from the rain.
Sunshine & UV index
- Sunshine: 7–9 hours daily on average, though with continuous cloud and rain to keep the number of sunny, clear days low.
- The UV index continues to be high (7–9), so outdoor sun protection is still necessary on outings.
City snapshots
- Amritsar: Highs of 35°C, lows of 26°C, some 199 mm of rain, and extreme humidity.
- Ludhiana: Same sweltering temps (high of 39°C), night temperatures of around 29°C, and plenty of rain.
- Other cities (Jalandhar, Patiala, Sialkot, etc.): Same hot, rainy, and soggy trend.
What to look out for in the coming weeks
- Early July: Hot with patchy rain and thunderstorms, primarily during the afternoons and evenings.
- Mid-July: The most intense rain, with local flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
- Late July: The heat mellows a bit, but rain continues to be frequent, keeping the landscape in a lush state.
Punjab during July is a stage of melodramatic contrasts of sweltering weather, oppressive humidity, and abrupt, at times torrential, monsoon rain. The climate tries and assures—feeding crops and cooling the earth but also trying the mettle of everyday life. When the monsoon becomes more intense, fields all over Punjab turn green and the air is filled with raindrops, and thus it is a season of rebirth and expectation all over the state.
