The second T20 match was played between New Zealand and Australia. Batting first, New Zealand scored 219 runs. First of all, Martin Guptill played a blistering inning of 97 runs. After that Jimmy Neesham played brilliant innings of 45 runs off 16 balls. New Zealand struck a total of 18 sixes in this innings, of which 6 sixes were struck by Jimmy Neesham. While fast bowler Daniel Sams smashed 41 runs from just 15 balls with the help of 4 sixes and 2 fours. Sams and Stoinis at one moment put the kiwis into a tense situation, however, all-rounder Neesham brought back the hosts and foxed both Stoinis and Sams. As per Cricket Australia, the partnership of 92 runs between Stoinis and Sams is the highest for the 7th wicket in a T20 international match. Previously the record was of Collingwood and Yardy of 91 runs.

In the end, Australia lost the second T20 international. Martin Guptill was chosen as the player of the match.
