While lashing out at the third-umpire in the present second Test between India and New Zealand in Mumbai, Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal did not mince his words. The umpiring farce involving skipper Virat Kohli on Day 1 of the Mumbai Test left Rawal, along with millions of cricket fans across the world, stunned.

Kohli, who was rested in Kanpur for the first Test, had a disappointing comeback against the Kiwis, falling for a four-ball duck. Despite the fact that he had little to do with what happened, he was the victim of a controversial call. Rawal expressed surprise by writing on Twitter, "Is it third umpire or third class umpiring."

Kohli had to walk back in despair after being ruled leg before wicket after being smacked on the pads by Ajaz Patel in the Indian' 30th innings. But not without a lot of drama. The Indian captain appeared confident as he instantly appealed the on-field decision, but the third umpire declared him out due to a lack of compelling evidence to reverse the on-field decision, which in Kohli's case was called 'out' by Anil Chaudhary.

The ball changed its trajectory before striking the pads, implying that the bat was ahead of the pad. Third umpire Virender Sharma, on the other hand, was not convinced since he couldn't tell if the ball hit the bat first or the pad first. Kohli exchanged a few words with the other on-field umpire, Nitin Menon, before visibly departing the field.

“The TV umpire has to find conclusive evidence to overturn the decision of the on-field umpire. There was no conclusive evidence that the ball hit the pad first. So, I think the process was followed. The process was right,” Doull said while commentating the game on Star Sports.

“That was bat first in my opinion. And I understand the ’conclusive evidence’ part. But I think this was an instance where common sense should have prevailed. But as they say common sense is not so common. Feel for Virat Kohli. #Unlucky #INDvNZ,” former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer tweeted.
