

PunjabSports, Youth Services and NRIs Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, onSaturday, congratulated Punjabi athlete Kamalpreet Kaur on qualifying for TokyoOlympics-2021 by achieving a target of 63.50 meters and breaking a 9-year-oldnational record in discus throw event.
Ina statement, Rana Sodhi informed that after Simarjit Kaur Chakar in individualboxing, Kamalpreet Kaur of Kabarwala village near Malout has now broughtlaurels for Punjab and the country by qualifying for the Olympics. On theconcluding day of the 24th National Federation Cup Senior AthleticsChampionship-2021 held from March 15 to 19 at Patiala, Kamalpreet Kaur threw65.06 meters during her first attempt. She also became the first Indian throwerto cross the 65-meter mark by breaking the national record set nine years agoin the event. Kamalpreet Kaur broke the national record of Commonwealth Gameschampion Krishna Poonia who set the record in 2012 with a throw of 64.76meters.
RanaSodhi said, "I am glad that the daughters of Punjab are shining in thearena of sports. The day is not far when Punjab will regain its numero-unoposition in sports."
SportsMinister Rana Sodhi reiterated, the players should excel in the sports withutmost dedication and enthusiasm, saying that the Punjab government standsshoulder to shoulder with them and will accord top priority to any need ofsporting or subsistence requirement of the players.
