The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Thursday broke his silence on multiple burning issues of Indian Cricket and also confirmed that the Indian Cricket Board is formulating women's IPL. As per reports, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was asked why the Indian Cricket Board has not started the Women's IPL (WIPL) till now. On that, Ganguly confirmed that the BCCI is formulating the WIPL and it is expected to go on the floors from 2023.

"We are at the level of formulation to have a full-fledged WIPL. It is certainly going to happen. I strongly believe that next year i.e. 2023 will be a very good time to start a full-fledged women’s IPL which will be as big and grand a success as men’s IPL." said Ganguly.

Notably, Australia has already started the women's version of the Big Bash League and various women cricketers of India participate in that. In fact, various women cricketers of India had expressed their wish about the WIPL. Cricketers including Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti Mandhana, and many more have advocated for the WIPL. Not only this, but many international women cricketers had also requested the BCCI to come up with the IPL for women. Now, former England skipper Michael Vaughan has too asked the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to keep the WIPL a priority.

Ganguly was also asked about the kind of Test captain BCCI is looking for after Virat Kohli's decision to step down. On that, Ganguly talked about the parameters that a player has to fulfill in order to lead Team India in Tests. "Obviously, there are certain parameters of leadership and whoever fits the bill will be the next Indian Test captain. I believe selectors will have a name in mind and they will discuss it with office-bearers – President and Secretary – and it will be announced in due course of time, Ganguly said.
